George Ivor Phillips was a gunner who served at home and abroad throughout the Second World War.
He was a barrister who had been up at St John’s College Oxford who stood as the Liberal candidate for Peckham in 1929, finishing third with 20% of the vote, the same year that he was Master of the Pellipar.
His father Lt Col George Ingleton Phillips CBE was also a freemason and a member of Brothers of Birchington Lodge No 5226 in Kent.
